Horarium, funnel, Balvenie scotch bottle, table, 150 pounds of sand

In 2009, Industry of the Ordinary—a Chicago-based conceptual art collaborative—randomly assigned 39 artists a verb as a prompt to create an artwork for a one-night event. I invited Joseph E. Merideth to collaborate with me on a work in response to the verb “bottle.” In Horarium, 150 pounds of sand slowly flowed from a gigantic funnel suspended above a glass bottle over the course of the 3-hour opening, eventually filling and covering the bottle, its pedestal, and the surrounding floor.
